AFI Film Festival

My AFI Experience The AFI Film Festival was hosted from November 10th – 17th 2016 at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood, California. It’s Monday night and I’m waiting in line to see the most recent Disney feature film, Moana. The line is very long and I’m wondering if I’m even going to get into see it. Why is the line so long on a Monday night? Why is the show sold out? The answer is because I’m at the annual AFI (American Film Institute) Film Festival and the tickets were free. That’s right…free. So, my friend and I get to the door with just a few people in front of us. We’re so excited that we’re going to get to see this feature film before it even hits theaters. So, we’re waiting…and waiting…and waiting. Finally, we make it in just as the movie starts…and we get seats in the very front ro...

Batman: The Killing Joke Movie Review

Batman: The Killing Joke is one of the most famous Batman comics in the superhero’s history. The Killing Joke follows Batman as he tries to tracks down The Joker after he as kidnaped Commissioner Gordon. The graphic novel was controversial in it’s day for it’s disturbing content and because of that the movie adaptation has received a R rating.  While The Killing Joke does not quit live up to expectations of die hard Batman fans, there is plenty a creepy and insane moments to sink your teeth into. First off, The Killing Joke does make use of the R rating with the Violence and disturbing imagery. The movie is brutal, minor characters are shot in a head and at one point a severed hand is seen flying across the screen after an explosion. The Killing joke has a chilling...

Guess Who’s Playing Winston Churchill?

Kevin Spacey. That’s right. Maybe the actor just has a knack for playing political roles. Any fan of Netflix’s original “House of Cards” will know just how true this is. The film is called “Captain of the Gate” and will center around the former prime minister of Great Britain. TheHollywoodReporter writes “Ben Kaplan, who previously tackled the late President Ronald Reagan for a History Channel film, wrote the screenplay. He also has penned episodes for the documentary TV series Vietnam in HD and WWII in HD.” So obviously, lots of history stuff goin’ on here. This should excite you if you’re into that sort of stuff. Currently the film has no director and they are looking for one. To read more about the story or “Captain of th...

Plane Crash Film Has MH370 Similarities

An upcoming film, ‘Deep Water,’ centers around a plane that crashes on its way to China and the people on the plane must fight for their lives. This film probably would have gone relatively unnoticed if it weren’t for the tragedy that was bestowed upon Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 which has been missing since March 8. The director, Alister Grierson, insists the movie will move ahead on schedule despite the real-life plane crash less than a month ago. “The similarities and timing is interesting and I can see why anecdotally the two things link up. It’s a tricky thing,” he told Mail Online. “But in simple terms, Deep Water is about an accident that happens on an airplane which goes down in the ocean, and the survivors trying to stay alive afterwards....

‘God’s Not Dead’ Showing Good Numbers in Box Office

The soon-to-be-released Christian film, ‘God’s Not Dead,’ has proven to be a hit with its limited release in less than 800 theaters across the country. The film made $8.2 million alone from those theaters. Willie Robertson from the popular TV show, Duck Dynasty appears in the film as himself and says “I thought it was well written and it came together,”and that the movie “really raised the bar with these faith-based movies.” The movie was only expected to make $5 million so it, clearly, is exceeding expectations. It seems the Christian community really came out in numbers to watch this one. To read more about the movie, click here.

Spiderman Director Leaving Series

We’ve heard a lot of Spiderman news as of late, but here’s even more: the director of the ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ series will be leaving after ‘The Amazing Spiderman 3.’ Marc Webb says he has had enough. “I want to help and contribute, but I think three movies…honestly, that’s it for me,” Webb told Entertainment Weekly. “I want to try other things.” ‘The Amazing Spiderman 3’ will be released in 2016 and ‘4’ in 2018 respectively. So watch out- Sony is milking this cash cow of a superhero for all it’s worth. And maybe even some more. To read the Entertainment Weekly article, click here.

‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ Chest Thump Remix

There was never a chance that this would not happen. And it’s finally here. Awards season might be over and True Detective has ended its first season, but that doesn’t mean the McConaissance is over. Interstellar is coming as well as a rumored cameo in Magic Mike 2 (oh dear God, please no).
