AFI Film Festival

The AFI Film Festival; hosted from November 10th – 17th 2016 at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood, California. My AFI Experience It’s Monday night and I’m waiting in line to see the most recent Disney feature film, Moana. The line is very long and I’m wondering if I’m even going to get into the theater at all. Why is the line so long on a Monday night? Why is the show sold out? It’s because I’m at the annual AFI (American Film Institute) Film Festival, which is a free event that celebrates both Hollywood and independent films made throughout the world. So, my friend and I get to the door with just a few people in front of us. We’re so excited that we’re going to get to see this feature film before it even hits theaters. So, we wait…and wait…and wait. Finally, we make it in just as the...

Batman: The Killing Joke Tickets Now Available, But Bad Timing?

Batman: The Killing Joke is an upcoming DC animated movie, set to be released on DVD and Blue Ray on August 2 and debut at San Diego Comic Con of this summer. However Fathom events are holding a special one night only showing of the movie in select theaters and tickets were just released today, Friday June 17, 2016. Now Batman: The Killing Joke have been getting a lot of attention in the last couple of months. Firstly is because of the voice talent; Kevin Conroy is returning as Batman, who has been voicing the character for over twenty years beginning with the animated series to the critically acclaimed Batman Arkham Video Games. But the actor who is getting the real attention is Mark Hamill as the Joker, who recently returned to the big screen as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Force Awa...

Guilty Pleasure: Top 10 Forgotten Songs of the 2000s

We all have our own guilty pleasures, like Bryce Harper. But what about those one-hit-wonders from the 2000s? Of course we still remember every lyric to *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye,” or even Hilary Duff’s “So Yesterday,” but who didn’t love a young Jesse McCartney in the short-lived boy band, Dreamstreet? Take a look at the top 10 forgotten songs of the 2000s. You can thank me later! Dream “He Loves You Not” Hellogoodbye “Here (In Your Arms)” M2M “Mirror Mirror” No Authority “Can I Get Your Number” Dreamstreet “It Happens Everytime” Paul Oakenfold “Starry Eyed Surprise”  Rude Buddha “Miss California” Ryan Cabrera “On the Way Down” Shaggy & Samantha Cole “Luv Me, Luv Me” 3LW “No More (Baby I’ma Do Right)”

Celebrity Ketchup: The Cast of “That ‘70s Show”

Let me get this straight. “That ‘70s Show” was (obviously) based in the 1970s in Wisconsin of all places, right? Well, here is my real question: Why did this show go off the air? I suppose we could place blame on “The O.C.” or “One Tree Hill,” but who didn’t love Eric’s boyish charm? And let’s not even get into Jackie’s retro style, because honestly, flares are making a come back. But where are these groovy teenage kids today? Danny Masterson (Steven Hyde) Let it be known that when “That ’70s Show” premiered in 1998, Masterson was hardly a teenager. In fact, he was 22 years old. Honestly though, can you name more than two or three teen television shows with actors who are actually teenagers? In any case, actor-producer Danny Masterson is better known as DJ Mom Jeans. Mast...

Celebrity Ketchup: The Cast of “10 Things I Hate About You”

We all have that movie we can quote from beginning to end. Let’s be real, who doesn’t know the whole poem from “10 Things I Hate About You?” Or the notorious quote, “I want you, I need you, oh baby, oh baby.” Adapted from Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, this late 90’s movie is pure gold. But have you ever wondered what happened to the popular kids of Padua High School?   Julia Stiles (Kat Stratford) We’ve seen Stiles in a few films since the late 90’s, like “Save the Last Dance” and “Silver Linings Playbook.” She has also appeared on hit television series like “Dexter” and “The Mindy Project.” But where is she now? Rumor has it, Julia Stiles likes to stroll around New York City’s East Village while keeping a low profile. But just take a look at her Twitter account. Home girl do...

Japan has given the world lots of amazing gifts. Sushi, Anime about high school swim teams (which is more entertaining than it should be), giant robots. The most famous gift Japan has given the world is Hello Kitty. Hello Kitty is a mascot character from Sanrio which embodies everything cute. She can be found on every sort of product from toothbrushes to toasters to cars. Hello Kitty is everywhere and on the eve of her 40th anniversary the real truth has been revealed. Hello Kitty is not, infact, a kitty. Hard to believe. Christine R. Yano, an anthropologist from the Univesity of Hawaii is curating a Hello Kitty retrospective at the Japanese American National Museum in October. She discovered that Hello Kitty is not a cat when Sanrio corrected her written texts for the exhibit. Hello Kitty...
