After a few months absence, the Nostalgia Critic show has come back. In the fourth year anniversary special of That Guy With the Glasses, the Nostalgia Critic left and Doug Walker announced that the show was ending. In the months that followed, Doug tried out a new series called Demo Real, but it didn’t turn out as well as he had planned and it wasn’t very popular. I didn’t care very much for that show either, mainly because it focused on parodying movies that were still in theaters that I hadn’t seen yet so I didn’t want the movies to be spoiled for me. I also didn’t think that the ones that I saw were as funny as the Nostalgia Critic either.
When Doug announced the Nostalgia Critic’s return, many fans were a bit skeptical. The last few episodes of the show were getting a little stale, which was the main reason for the show’s initial retirement in the first place.
So how is the “new” Nostalgia Critic? Personally, I really like it. The main difference in these new episodes now is that Doug has continued to use the actors he hired for Demo Real. I personally think that this was a very good idea. Doug did most of the jokes on his own before, so it gives the new episodes a bit of a different feel from the old ones and it allows for Doug to have more variety in his jokes and gives them more variety. So in short, I think he’s still got it and I certainly think that the Nostalgia Critic can still be funny. I laughed more at these past few new episodes much much more than I did at the last couple episodes before his initial retirement. For example, the bit in The King and I episode with “Russel Crowe” and “Shakira” had me laughing hysterically so hard that I had to pause the video and regain my composure before I could continue watching. So needless to say, I do like the “new” Nostalgia Critic and I look forward to whatever he brings us next.
