With the Oscars less than 24 hours away, the 2014 Independent Spirit Awards were the last of the shows leading up the big mama presentation. The Spirits honor independent film-making but many of the nominees will also be present at the Oscars tomorrow night, notably 12 Years A Slave and Dallas Buyers Club.
12 Years took home five awards: Best Feature, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress (Lupita Nyong’o), Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. It’ll be a surprise tomorrow to see who goes home with Supporting Actress, as Nyong’o and Jennifer Lawrence, for American Hustle, have been going back and forth all season.
Dallas Buyers Club took home both Actor awards for Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey. Not much of a shocker; both have been sweeping the awards. Cate Blanchett also collected another accolade for her performance in Blue Jasmine.
