Deadline is reporting that Will Smith is close to announcing that he will not be returning to play Captain Steven Hiller in the sequel to the popular 1996 film ‘Independence Day.’
The actor has apparently been weighing the idea of whether or not to return to the movie, but chances are that he will not. Last June, the director of the project, Roland Emmerich said, “Will Smith can not come back because he’s too expensive, but he’d also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much.”
20th Century Fox plans to move forward anyway without the famous A-lister and is planning on a July 4th, 2016 release date- exactly twenty years after the original was released.
