Award season is nearly over, with the Academy Awards only two weeks away. But the BAFTAs (British Academy Film Awards), often forgotten by American audiences, were held just tonight.
Some winners were obvious – Blue Jasmine‘s Cate Blanchett has been sweeping Best Actress while Frozen is the favorite for the Animated Feature Oscar. Jennifer Lawrence winning Best Supporting Actress against Lupita Nyong’o is still a shock to me and throws into question who will come out with the Oscar. Nyong’o got the SAG and Critics’ Choice while Lawrence took home the Golden Globe.
Welcome surprises in Best Actor categories were Chiwetel Ejiofor for 12 Years A Slave and Barkhad Abdi for Captain Phillips. 12 Years A Slave also took Best Film while Gravity took the award for Best British Film and Best Director.
