Walking Dead 110 Recap

So in the latest issue of the Walking Dead we start off with Jesus and Maggie talking about Kal, a watchguard for the Hilltop. At the end of 109, Jesus realized that Kal is gone and now he’s about to set forth after him to top him for whatever he’s about to do. He picks up a horse and sets after him. Meanwhile, Eugene is hesitant to make bullets for Rick who wants to go to Negan’s camp and kill everyone so that they can be free from the Saviors. Eugene feels wrong killing people who are alive, but Rick reminds him that they are people who want to kill us and have been causing hell for some time now. Jesus catches up with Kal but is interrupted by a group of Negan’s men who arrive on behest of Kal. Jesus tries to divert attention by saying that the offering is going to be light and he just wanted to tell him ahead of time. Connor, the leader, gets angry and punches Jesus in the face and leaves.Kal is apologetic and talks about his fear and hatred for Negan while Jesus retaliates by talking about how his move was rash and dangerous. Kal asks if this can stay between them and Jesus just rides away. Rick, Michonne, Carl, Andrea and others reach the Kingdom and Ezekiel and Michonne have a brief standoff but the spat ends quickly. Ezekiel puts Shiva, his pet tiger, into a cage and we learn that Dwight (the scarred man whose wife is one of Negan’s sex slaves) is slinking back into the ranks unnoticed so that he can better spy on Negan, Rick is wary of his trustworthiness, but Ezekiel reassures him that there’s more of a reason for him to be on their side than that of the Saviors.

Ezekiel throws a feast and Michonne and Andrea are still wary of Ezekiel’s king act, Carl mentions that Jesus trusts him so he trusts him. Michonne is standing in a balcony and Ezekiel comes to her and they have a conversation about how they’re both essentially pretending to be someone they’re not. Ezekiel talks about how people need a strong leader to follow. Ezekiel opens up to Michonne and tells her his backstory. He was once a Zookeeper and saved Shiva when she fell and cut open her leg after the outbreak. He got slashed by her, but after saving her from bleeding out, Shiva has been calm towards him ever since. He also mentions he used to be a theater actor which is why he’s able to act as the King so easily. Ezekiel flirts with Michonne a bit and it seems that he’s sincere in dropping his facade and Michonne seems to have warmed up to him a lot. Michonne and Ezekiel reintroduce themselves to each other and Ezekiel wishes her a good night.

All in all I really liked the issue, I liked learning about Ezekiel’s past and it has a good amount of character development for some of the newer characters (Eugene, Jesus and Ezekiel) while also moving the plot forward. I think that that the next issue is either going to be war preparations or the beginning of the war between the Saviors and Rick’s group. Issue 112’s synopsis is “Carl and Andrea are faced with the unthinkable” and I’m hoping that means something has happened to Rick. I’m honestly hoping that Rick dies soon. His character is getting a bit too stale and Kirkman obviously has no problems killing off main characters. It’d be interesting to see how everyone takes it and handles themselves without their longtime leader, but who knows. Either way, someone’s definitely gonna die soon.
