Last May, HBO’s popular Vampire drama ‘True Blood’ replaced its show runner from Alan Ball to Mark Hudis for the sixth season. Turns out Hudis is being replaced himself. Writer and producer Brian Buckner will take over the show. Buckner has been with the show since its first season.
Hudis has been with ‘True Blood’ since the fourth season, but decided to leave the show in order to “focus on development under his overall deal with the network” (referring to a deal he made with the network last spring).
Buckner told Haveford College’s Magazine. “It’s impossible to fill Alan Ball’s shoes. That’s not false modesty, that’s the truth. The guy’s created two massive hit shows for HBO and has on Oscar. Really, this plane is in the air, and I just want to land it safely.”
Fans always worry when control of a show changes because bringing in someone new to a long running series can cause drastic changes. Luckily Buckner has been working on ‘True Blood’ since the beginning, so fans can feel that he will do the show justice.
