Everything you need to know about the Doctor Who Christmas special

Everything you need to know about the Doctor Who Christmas special

Christmas is just around the corner and while for most people it means family, food and presents. But for fans of Doctor Who (Whovians) it means something different; The Doctor Who Christmas Special.

For many, it is a Christmas Tradition to sit down after Christmas dinner and watch Doctor Who. Past Christmas specials have seen rengerations of the Doctor, magical wardrobes, and some very Dickens-esque stories. This year is going to be a big one. New companion, new TARDIS, new theme song even!

Here is everything you need to know about this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special: The Snowmen.

The Story

The Doctor takes the loss of pervious companions, Amy and Rory Pond, very hard. Once again he has become consumed by his loneliness. He finds himself in Victorian England, 1892 to be exact.

The Doctor is sought out by a slightly odd group of people; Commander Strax, a Sontaran, Madame Vastra, the reptile like Silurian warrior, and Jenny Flint, her partner. These three need the Doctor to help with the Snowmen, a chilling villain that, of course, threatens humankind.

This episode promises to be very scary and full of intrigue and action!

Who wouldn’t be scared of these????

Two “Prequels” were released for the special watch them here!

And, of course, the trailer for the episode:

New Companion

In the mid season finale of Series 7 the Doctor lost his dear companions Amy and Rory in one of the most heart wrenching episodes ever. Now the Doctor has spent some time on his own and its time for some company.

So now we get Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. Not much has been revealed about Clara, but she supposed to be smart and pretty bad-ass. She’s sharp and is her own woman (she doesn’t NEED the Doctor like previous companions and her life doesn’t revolve around him). But wait. Haven’t we seen her before? Yes, we have. Jenna-Louise Coleman appeared in the first episode of Series 7, “Asylum of the Daleks”, as Oswin Oswald.

Doctor Who Showrunner, Steven Moffat, is being is extremely secretive about how Clara and Oswin are connected. From what I can deduce Clara and Oswin are the same person, but obviously “Clara” comes before “Oswin” because, Spoiler Alert! Oswin gets turned into a Dalek. It will be a very interesting story to follow.

New Tardis

The new Tardis design goes back to the simpler design style of Classic Who. It’s very, aquamarine and every simplistic. The “throwback” design is probably to pay tribute to the series as Who turns 50 in 2013.

Check out the new design!

Of course the outside will always be the blue police box
