Today marks the first time River Song entered the life of the Doctor (and the last time for her). So to celebrate we’ve complied a list of the Top 5 most bad-ass River Song moments. Of course River is just a bad-ass in general, so it was hard to narrow these down.
5. Hello, Sweetie (Silence in the Library)
River has been awesome from the start! River was first introduced to Doctor Who in season 4 in the episode “Silence in the Library.” The Doctor and Donna try to escape the Vastra Nerada in the Universe’s largest library, when a team of archeologists show up; Dr. River Song being their leader. The Doctor and River travel in opposite directions in time from each other, so the Doctor had no idea who she was, but she knew everything about him.
4. Hello Mr. Spaceman (The Impossible Astronaut/The Wedding of River Song)
River was pretty much programed to end the Doctor from the day she was born. While she doesn’t know its her that kils the “Doctor in The Impossible Astronaut,” by the time “The Wedding of River Song” rolls around she’s terrified of what she has to do. Why does this make her a bad-ass? Because she doesn’t want to kill the man she loves. River normally has a sassy and teasing attitude, but she shows some raw emotion in the moments before the Doctor’s death.
3. First and Last (Day of the Moon)
The Doctor and River’s first and last kiss (depending on which one you talk to). After the Doctor brings her back to her cell at Stormcage, and River pulls him in for a kiss just like she has always done, but this is the first time for the Doctor. It’s passionate and unexpected, terribly sad and extremely cute. “There’s a first time for everything” the Doctor said as he went back to the TARDIS. “And a last time” River adds after he has gone.
2. The Ultimate Sacrifice (Forest of the Dead)
Continuing the story from “Silence in the Library,” River does one of the most selfless things ever, she sacrifices herself. In order to rescue all of the people who have been trapped in the library’s computer the Doctor is going to sacrifice himself. River, knowing how much of a future he has ahead of him, won’t have that so she knocks him out and takes his place. She rescues all of the people in the library but has to face the cruel fate of being trapped in the library’s computer forever, never to see her Doctor again.

Newly regenerated into her most common form, River says one of the greatest lines ever when faced with a bunch of SS officers in Nazi Germany. No explanation needed. Epic.
