The first Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (BEMH) was phenomenal, so I was super excited to see the second. I was not disappointed! This cast is so good, they have the perfect chemistry on screen and the writing for these projects is very clever. The whole project revolves around Dev Patel getting married and also building plans to open up a second hotel.
Differences: this is a bit darker, a little more fiery, the depth of the characters is a bit deeper, and somehow Dev Patel is even MORE manic than the first.
Each film has a message, the first was “Everything will be all right in the end, if it is not all right, it is not yet the end.”
This one is “There is no present like the Time.”
If you liked the first, you’ll like the second. If you didn’t, it’s a lot more of the same so you might not get the jokes or understand the irreverent old people cracking wise. Maggie Smith steals basically the entire show but not before we got great performances from Dame Judy Dench. Bill Nighy did well, everyone else was fairly ancillary. Although I did like Richard Gere’s role in this film. NO SPOILERS!
You liked the first, go see it in theaters. If you didn’t, it’s fine to wait for On-Demand. See the trailer below.
