The Man of Steel: A potentially good Superman movie

I am personally not a huge Superman fan. I always thought he was a (super)human incarnation of a the “Deus ex machina” trope. My opinions of the franchise weren’t exactly enhanced after the kryto muck that was Superman Returns.

Super Hero movies are the prime focus of modernizations and revamps this past decade. But a majority of the successful ones have been Marvel comics. In example, the Avengers and the several movies leading up to it. DC has always struggled in terms of gaining positive reviews (Jonah Hex, Catwomen, Green Lantern, Watchmen, and a particularly nipple suited Batman movie.) Marvel had some less than stellar movies too (You know which emo dancing Spiderman movie I’m talking about) but the the shift has always been more positive than negative. But the few and  powerful vibes being picked up by the Man of Steel Trailers seem promising.

The earlier trailer gave audiences a heads up about the type of vibe this movie is sending out. Semi realistic and gritty, showcasing a young Clark Kent showing early signs of struggles with his powers. New? To a degree. Refreshing? Hard not to be compared to its predecessors. The trailer was creepy to say the least, a menacing signal broadcasted to Earth saying ” You are not Alone.” The one broadcasting this message is introduced as the long time opponent of Superman, General Zod.

With Zach Snyder as the director, you know the movie is going to be visually striking and dynamic. A little wary because of his reliance on visuals to counter the lack luster aspects of the films content as seen recently in Watchmenand Sucker punch. But with Christopher Nolan as Producer, a quasi realistic and decent Superman movie may be on the horizon.
