Seventh Son. A book of note and a cool idea. Based off of a couple of different concepts and themes from John Delaney’s “The Wardstone Chronicles”, and his books like “The Last Apprentice”. Of course, there is another set of books not by Delaney called “Seventh Son” that follow the same premise, and it’s about the return of of a Jesus-like person.
Before I begin, as always I will start with the end. Don’t bother seeing this in theaters or on-demand. Wait for the cable release.
The concept fell flat- it’s VERY shiny, has a fun cast, and the graphics/effects are phenomenal.
Base concept- the Seventh Sons of dudes are supposed to be better/faster/stronger, and their Seventh Sons are supposed to be like super-unicorns. I saw this movie yesterday, here is the memorable cast:

There were cool dragons, some minor witchery and sorcecraft. I just don’t get why I didn’t like this movie. I was bored, like, super bored and it is one of my FAVORITE genre of films! Sword and sorcery, give me more! BUT, it was camp because Bridges had the accent.
If you’re unfamiliar with his voice, you, like most of the reviewers of this film, have not seen RIPD. I, however, supported my friend Mike Richardson and went to see his -albeit not awesome- comic book movie in theaters and I own it on several formats. SO, I knew this voice all too well. I even have a funny imitation that I do of it. I am the only one that has heard it, so it’s funny. Don’t judge me.
I hope he goes back to the Tron voice. If he sticks with this voice, he won’t be hired, from what I saw it was the major downfall of this film from the other reviews, even though I was able to block it out.
I think it was shot in China and Canada, I know it had Chinese money involved, Legendary has been getting a lot of Chinese funding since it opens up Chinese distribution. But they have been swinging and missing. I want to lift them up and shake them sometimes, really don’t know what they were thinking with this. I’ll get it on-demand for the second look, maybe they’ll remaster and dub the digital version with a normal star.
Bummer.
