Movies that participate in alternate realities are the best. They keep the audience active in the fake world of the story, like the Joker was sending out hidden messages and task a year before The Dark Knight for willing participants. Cloverfield had a very in depth alternate reality that connected a Japanese oil rig and Slushie company that somehow intertwined with the first “sighting” of the monster. If you want to hype up a movie and keep people invested, making the audience participants in the plots universe is the best way to do so.
Guillermo Del Toro’sPacific Rim gives audience members a little bit more information by sending out briefcases of Hannibal Chau’s Kaiju Organ remedies. The monsters of Pacific Rim, the Kaijus, have had their organs and other what nots sold in the futuristic black market as depicted in the video.
I’m already psyched to see giant monsters fight with giant robots, and having the plots backstory explained with gross organs and special artwork makes for a pretty interested Sci Fi introduction.
