Legend of Korra Follow-up

Since I have now watched all 12 episodes of the first season of The Legend of Korra, I thought I would do a follow-up to my original post. You will recall that I said that one of my favorite things about the original series was the characters and their development over the course of the series. I did like the characters in Korra, although not quite as good as the original series in my opinion, they are still pretty good. One thing of note was that at first, Lin seemed like kind of a jerk, and not at all like Toph, who I said was my favorite character. However, once Lin opened up a bit and you got to know her better, she was actually pretty cool, she’s just not as blunt and brash as Toph, which there’s nothing wrong with that of course, it gives her room to grow as a character. Bolin is obviously supposed to be the comic relief like Sokka was, but honestly, I found him to be slightly more annoying and not really as funny as Sokka, thoguh he wasn’t bad really, he just wasn’t quite as good. At least he’s somewhat more useful than Sokka lol. I did find the whole love square thing that was going on with Korra/Mako/Bolin/Asami kind of weird and a bit too much with there being four of them involved, but it’s  not the main focus and Bolin doesn’t seem to be as much a part of it anymore so it’s alright I guess.

SPOILERS of the plot will most likely follow. Like I said, I thought Amon was quite an intimidating villain, with the ability to take away people’s bending and all, because for Korra to have her bending taken away would pretty much destroy her identity as the Avatar, which it did for a little bit at the end, but it didn’t last very long because right after her water, earth, and fire bending were taken away, she unlocked her air bending so she wasn’t completely without bending for very long. It still did devastate her especially because she was always so confident before, but it was still at the end of the same episode where Aang showed up and gave her bending back. I personally think they should have spent more time on that, like have one more episode where she was without her bending and she had to get control of the depression it was making her feel and meditate and search inside herself and then at the end of that one Aand could come and give her bending back, but then again, it was originally conceived as a 12 episode miniseries so I guess the series feeling a bit rushed is understandable. Amon seems to be gone now, so I wonder where the plot will go from there for the rest of the series. I kinda guessed that there would probably be some secret about him that we would find out where he wasn’t who he seemed and all that and I was right. Oh also, the bending moves are even more AWESOME than in the original series, which is saying something because they were pretty cool there too, but even MORE impressive in Korra! So final thoughts on season 1: I really enjoyed it, it’s definitely a worthy successor to Avatar: The Last Airbender. Even though it does have some small problems, I think it’s great and I can’t wait for season 2!

Edit: one more thing, it was interesting to see older versions of our heroes from Avatar, but for some reason I thought Toph looked kinda weird, she had an overly strong jaw and it kind of made her look too manly XD
