I don’t want to spoil any part of this film for you, so I’ll just give you the highlights. I’ve been looking forward to the Kingsman since I saw the first commercial. All the spy stuff you like from the British Bond films, just a TOUCH of cheeky irreverence… *cough* *wink* and a whole lot of action. The fight sequences were SO good and the casting was phenomenal.
Essentially the Kingsman is a secret service providing a service against baddies but they aren’t beholden to a government. They do good for the sake of doing good and have billions of dollars because they figured out a way to inherit the wealth of those with no heirs. A billion dollar industry, apparently. If one of the kingsman (like the new Knights of the Roundtable) is killed in action then another is recruited to take his place. Even when they’re old, the Kingsman can kick some serious ass. First and foremost, however, they are gentlemen. Bespoke suits, tailored to the 9s and all the stuff you’d imagine you’d have if you were a slick British dude. They’re a classy people, what can I say. I think it’s the soft palette of the voice that helps.
The spycraft and gadgets are NOT over the top, even the ‘bullet-proof umbrella’ idea has some holes in it… The women are fantastically fit and there is JUST enough sex to be a proper spy film without going over the top. I realized while watching this movie that action adventure spy films are my #2 seed behind comic book movies. Guardians, Avengers, Mission Impossible, Kingsman, I will now watch these whenever they’re on TV and I might actually go see Kingsman again before it’s out of theaters.
Sam Jackson has a ridiculous lisp, he’s the billionaire baddie. He has a henchwoman with nothing below the knees on either leg. We’ll call her Swordfoot, she bounces around and has an AMAZING breakdance parkour fight. I can’t say enough about how fun this film was to watch. It says enough that I saw it yesterday and I decided to put this review ahead of the other great film I saw The Wedding Ringer.
I would suggest you see this film in theaters, if you don’t have a chance to see it in theaters you better get it on-demand. Otherwise you’ll miss out on one of the greats and have to wait 6 months to see it on HBO, they better fight for the rights to have this first.
