Selfie is an upcoming ABC comedy series from Suburgatory creator Emily Kapnek that reinvents a modern spin on My Fair Lady. The show follows self-absorbed Eliza Dooley (Gillan) “who is more concerned with “likes” than being liked. After suffering a public and humiliating breakup, she becomes the subject of a viral video and suddenly has more social media “followers” than she ever imagined — but for all the wrong reasons.” She enlists the help of a marketing expert (Cho), who “remodels” her a la the original story/musical.
Cho and Gillan are an odd pair but I’m excited. Cho’s stints on Go On and Sleepy Hollow were less than I had hoped for and Gillan’s new horror movie looks only semi-okay. Hopefully this new comedy series garners acclaim from audiences and critics and both won’t only be known for past franchises.
