Dream Works and Netflix

Dream Works Animation is making a bold move as it tries to decrease its dependency on movies. They are trying to expand into the world of television. This movie has been directed towards Netflix. The new deal was struck on Monday and Dream Work Animation wants to overflow Netflix with television programs onto the internet stream. This partnership is looking to be 300 hours, which is one of the biggest commitments for an original program through Netflix. This pushes Hollywood into bring more content into the internet first. Especially after Netflix has released their own shows like House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, and the most popular one recently is Arrested Development season 4.

The new deal made Neflix and Dream Works Animation stock rise, giving hope to the deal. Jeffrey Katzenberg didn’t want to give many details until after the conference between Neflix and Dream Work Animation. Although, he hinted that Dream Works might use characters from past movies like “Shrek” and “The Croods” along with series coming from Classic Media which include characters from Casper the Friendly Ghost, Lassie, She-Ra and Mr. Magoo.

Netflix has already been doing some shuffling with shows, because of the loss of Nickelodeon and Viacom, but will gain Disney and Pixar from Starz in late 2016. This doesn’t seem to slow down Neflix though. As younger audience turn to watch movies and television series online without commercials, there isn’t anything stopping Netflix as they partner with Dream Works Animation to create shows for younger audiences.
