Happy Friday! This Friday (and every Friday after) we’ll be brining you a featured Cosplayer of the Week!
This week’s featured cosplayer is Dustbunny, or Iris V. An award winning cosplayer originally from the Northern Virginia area, but now located in Los Angeles, California. She makes costumes from everything including Anime, games and comics. Her work is incredibly detailed and she does fantastic make up work. Here is a little interview we did with her!
When did you start cosplaying?
I started officially cosplaying over 10 years ago. But unofficially it was just about every Halloween.
My first cosplay was Kagome from Inuyasha.
What is the main draw of cosplaying for you?
I was in love with the idea of being a character that I admired. And making costumes.
Favorite costume that you’ve done?
At the moment my favorite costume has to be Mad Moxxi from Borderlands.
Favorite part of cosplaying?
My favorite part about cosplaying has to be the people that I meet at conventions. And that I get to dress up for a day in an outfit that I would never were to work.
What does cosplay mean to you?
To me cosplay has always meant having a good time. And meeting people that love what I love.
What is your cosplaying specialty?
I have never felt that I had one stronger specialty over another. I enjoy doing it all and improving on what I lack in.
Advice to people who want to cosplay?
I would tell anyone who wants to start cosplaying to learn to sew and how to put on makeup. Also to surround yourself with good people.
Best cosplay experience?
My best cosplay experience has to be when I won the Best of Friday award at AnimeUSA a few years back. Getting that award showed me that people really loved my work.
Worst cosplay experience?
I don’t think that I have a ‘worst cosplay’ experience. The only thing that I dislike about cosplaying now is how mainstream it has become and how it is becoming more about money and fame then the fandom itself.
Was there moment where you decided to be really serious about cosplay?
I have always been a serious cosplayer. But I suppose if you want a moment it has to have been when I asked my mom to show me how to use the sewing machine.
Thank you for letting me be your cosplayer of the week. If anyone has any questions about cosplaying don’t hesitate to contact me. <3 DB
