After what feels like an eternity, the third season of the BBC’s hit show, Sherlock, is finally underway.
Today was the first read through of season 3 and shooting starts next Monday. Cue the fangirls sobbing with joy.
Season 2 left viewers full of emotion and confusion with The Reichenbach Fall, and fans have been eagerly awaiting answers. How did Sherlock do it? What will John think when he finds out? What’s next for the great detective? (as to what “it” is, you’ll have to watch the show to find out! No spoilers here!)
Season 3 will see a bit of a change because Paul McGuigan, director of 4 of the 6 episodes of Sherlock, will not be returning. McGuigan will focus on directing the film Frankenstein (which might star Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe) and also working on The Man Who (a film about The Beatles manager, Brian Epstien) with Benedict Cumberbatch.
The first episode of season 3 of Sherlock will be directed by Jeremey Lovering. Also set to direct an episode is Colm McCarthy, who recently directed episodes of BBC shows Doctor Who and Ripper Street. The third director has not been announced.
Sherlock will film two episodes before the summer break and the third afterwards in order to accommodate the talent’s schedules. Season 3 is expected to air this winter.
