Barb Wire Star Wars exchange

Pre-Script: We didn’t run this story initially because Dark Horse issued it on April Fools Day. A day when NOBODY should do press releases. ESPECIALLY when your press release has a note about a free tiger giveaway. However the rest kinda went like this, and Dark Horse wanted to make sure you knew that it was no Foolin’ around. Back story on this: Dark Horse had the comic book rights to Star Wars for basically ever, then Disney/Marvel bought LucasFilm and the rights to Star Wars. So, now Marvel does Star Wars. Comic shop owners were a LITTLE overzealous in ordering SW#1 thinking it would sell out to old and young audiences. (I’m serious, I know some shops that literally bought thousands of copies). So….now…they have truckloads of overstock that just won’t sell. (I’m thinking it also has to do with the 150 thousand copies that were given away as LootCrate variants- so many people have this book, it is probably as diluted as Spiderman #1 from 1990). SO, Dark Horse, being as magnanimous as they are, have decided to do a little swap. Details below. Well played, Dark Horse, well played.

IT’S NO PRANK: GET THE RARE ‘BARB WIRE’ #1 ULTRAVARIANT FOR ‘STAR WARS’ #1 COVERS

They  may have been joking about giving away a live tiger, but Dark Horse’s special Adam Hughes Barb Wire #1 ultravariant cover is no prank—and neither is how retailers can get their hands on it!
That’s right: for every twenty covers of Marvel’s standard Star Wars #1 first printing that retailers send to Dark Horse, they’ll get one rare Barb Wire #1 ultravariant by Adam Hughes for FREE with a clear message: Don’t f*** with Barb Wire. This variant cover will only be available through this promotion.
“We have been and remain huge Star Wars fans and as such we wanted to do our best to help promote Marvel’s new series,” said Dark Horse president and publisher Mike Richardson. “No retailer who is a true Star Wars fan would destroy his or her own first issue, so what better way to pump sales than by offering a reward for ordering extra copies? Of course, we’re hoping that Marvel returns the favor by offering an exclusive Star Wars cover for every 20 Barb Wire covers it receives. Seems fair and what better combination exists in this or any galaxy than Star Wars and Barb Wire?”
All submissions must be received by June 5, 2015, at the address below in order to qualify.

Please note: no subsequent printings or variants are accepted as part of this promotion.
