WOW what a weekend! Special Edition NYC is such a different show. The artists are the stars and it’s a beautiful time to be in NYC. New York Comic Con can often be chilly, but early June was absolutely gorgeous weather.
Here’s the rundown: SpEdNYC was built as counter-programming to the pop culture behemoths. Supposed comic book fans will show up by the thousands to nerd out and buy everything from every vendor. Sure, not every vendor will spark your interest, but it’s a great way to find someone new and connect with old favorites.
Oh, and did I mention, there were a TON of cosplayers? We had a booth in the center aisle, and it was pretty great because everyone walked by us and we often stopped them to snap a pic in front of our booth.
We even had a few fans come by like Ming Chen from Comic Book Men. I met him at AwesomeCon and when he walked by he must have remembered the beard, he is now on my list of favorite people because he remembered me and stopped to say hello.
Our last pic was in front of his booth, this one is in front of mine, but I didn’t charge him, this one was a freebie.
On to some COSPLAY!
Dueling Casey Jones’, cartoon and movie versions.
I think this is the Arkham Knight scarecrow. This guy freaked me out because he had some kind of sound machine in his mouth that let out this little scream sound when he opened his mouth. It was genuinely terrifying.
Some type of bat-like man, and Harley standing with her feet in WHAT IS THAT FOOT DOING?!
Our friend Skeletor. Not close enough?
There it is. He actually had little red LED lights in front of his eye holes.
I don’t think there are enough Hashtags in this picture. Beautiful Tailwands, Sexy Carpe Noctem and a super hot stack of business cards. Oh and the cosplay, but we will share that info on the social sites.
The Street Fighter team cosplay!
The cosplayer on the right stood in front of the booth for a solid 20 minutes, facing away, talking to his buddies. I offered him something to read while he stood there completely blocking the booth. I even said “hey, since you aren’t moving can I at least get a picture” and he didn’t get the hint, but he did do this fun constipated look, so that made me happy.
THE MARVEL FAMILY! aka the Shazam family, with Shazam- Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, Black Adam (from the Black Marvel Family, yep that’s a thing).
This Steampunk Harley Quinn looked a lot like Valta from Tailwands, so we took a picture!
Finally, our most impressive endorsement, the Viking Stormtrooper (Lord of Cardboard)
Anyhoo, great show, great weather, great weekend, great new friends. Great things we’ll be able to announce in a few weeks, including a new variant cover!
