World’s Finest, Flash and Justice League announced at SDCC!

According to LA Times’ Hero Complex, the follow-up to Man of Steel is going to include Batman with Henry Cavill reprising his role as Superman and Zack Snyder will also direct it. However, Christian Bale as already spoken out about not being Batman anymore, so who is going to take up the mantle is still in the air.

During the reveal, Snyder brought out Man of Steel actor Harry Lennix (General Swanwick) and read the following piece of memorable dialogue from a certain popular graphic novel:

I want you to remember, Clark…in all the years to come…in your most private moments…I want you to remember…my hand…at your throat…I want…you to remember…the one man who beat you.

For those of you unaware, this is Batman’s speech from Dark Knight Returns. Snyder said the movie won’t be an adaptation of this film, but it will be inspired by it. Dang, was Bruce really that mad when his satellite blew up?

The Hollywood Reporter added there are tentative plans for a Flash film in 2016, pushing backJustice League to 2017. Justice League was supposed to be released in 2015, but word was the script wasn’t all that great. I’m okay with this because maybe it means that WB wants to make a good Justice League film, but what the fuck? The Flash before Wonder Woman? I at least hope that the Flash is about Wally West, even though it will probably be about Barry.

Even Diane Nelson, the president of DC Comics, says that a Wonder Woman film will be tricky.

Okay then, did you not see Thor? Because that’s pretty set with Norse mythology which isn’t even nearly as well known as Greek mythology. However she does bring up a good point:

We have to get her right, we have to. She is such an icon for both genders and all ages and for people who love the original TV show and people who read the comics now. I think one of the biggest challenges at the company is getting that right on any size screen. The reasons why are probably pretty subjective: She doesn’t have the single, clear, compelling story that everyone knows and recognizes. There are lots of facets to Wonder Woman, and I think the key is, how do you get the right facet for that right medium? What you do in TV has to be different than what you do in features. She has been, since I started, one of the top three priorities for DC and for Warner Bros. We are still trying right now, but she’s tricky.

I’ve been reading George Perez’s Wonder Woman run and the storyline seems pretty movie quality to me. Diana fighting Ares, God of War. That’d be pretty cool to see on the big screen? Luckily for Diana, the CW’s Amazon is still in development. Hopefully if that show succeeds it will be good news for seeing a Wonder Woman movie.

So what say ye about the news from SDCC?
