Fans of Avatar the Last Airbender waited almost two years for the spinoff series The Legend of Korra to come out. Oddly enough that seems to be the same case when waiting for season 2 of Korra. The creators of the show released the trailer for the new season a few weeks ago and it’s been the buzz in the Avatar community ever since. The general reaction to the first season of Korra was mixed because many fans were hoping that it would be a continuation of the original series just set a few years in the future. What we ended up getting was the next Avatar in the reincarnation cycle and small glimpses into the adult lives of Aang and the rest of the crew. The new book is entitled “Spirit” and the creators have confirmed that the show will take place half in Republic City and the other half throughout the world. The title suggests that this season is going to be focusing more on Korra’s experience and understanding of the spirit world and how the Avatar is the gateway between the physical realm and the spirit world. This will be an interesting way to approach the season because the first book was very action packed and focused on connecting to the past of Aang and how it related to villain of the season. Quite honestly the first book was good for what type of feel the writers were trying to do. The reason many hardcore fans of the series hated it was because they were expecting it to be exactly like the original show. It certainly brought elements of the first show, but incorporated them into a more adult/teen demographic. This is way it’s hard to compare the two season when they both have different targeted audiences. This series was more meant to attract different people to the show that weren’t already fans. With any luck this next season will create a better buzz for the show and prove to the established fans that the writers of Avatar are still great at creating excellent plots.
