With the Olympics still a-going frostily in Sochi, Universal Pictures has released an extended preview of the film Unbroken, the true story of Olympic runner and war veteran Louis Zamperini who was captured by Japanese forces during WWII. The film won’t hit theaters until December but the timing with the current Olympics couldn’t be ignored, I suppose. The preview – which can be viewed below – contains footage of Zamperini himself, now in his late 90’s, along with trailer material from the fiction film based on his amazing life.
The film not only boasts an incredible story but a strange eclectic crew. Jolie directed and produced the film. Joel and Ethan Coen wrote the screenplay, based on previous drafts by William Nicholson (Le Mis) and Richard LaGravenese (Behind the Candelabra). As the description on the Youtube video states, “Leading the accomplished behind-the-scenes crew is 10-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall).” The film is certainly looking like an Oscar contender for next year, and this year’s ceremony isn’t for another two weeks. Talk about getting a head start.
