If you haven’t heard of the ABC family TV show ‘Alice in Arabia,’ it’s probably because there was only one episode. The show follows an American teenaged girl who is kidnapped by her extended family who are Saudi Arabian.
Basically what happened was that the exact day the pilot was released, Muslim groups including the Council on American-Islamic Relations Los Angeles Chapter (CAIR-LA) began protesting the one hour long drama.
“The current conversation surrounding our pilot was not what we had envisioned and is certainly not conducive to the creative process, so we’ve decided not to move forward with this project,” said an ABC family spokesperson.
TheWrap reports, “Although the group acknowledged that Eikmeier had “noble intentions” for the story’s potential to give Arabs and Muslims a voice on television, it was “concerned about the negative impact this program could have on the lives of ordinary Arab-American and American Muslims” like stereotyping and bullying of students.”
So, if the show sounds interesting to you, I’m sorry but there will be no more episodes beyond the pilot. To read more about the news, click here.
